Students

  • Liz - Human Practice - Hello! My name is Liz, and I am entering my sophomore year. As a team leader for iGEM, I guide the team to win the prize. I enjoy dancing, playing the piano, reading, singing, traveling, and hanging out with people, which is the reason why I chose to be part of the Human Practices team. Since I want to learn more about synthetic biology, I joined the iGEM team! Sometimes I enjoy drawing some little cute stuff. Also, I’m good at speaking in front of people IN CHINESE. In RIASEC terms, many people know me as Artistic and Social; my creativity, adventurousness, confidence, and enthusiasm show the Enterprising side of me.
  • Jett - Dry Lab - The name Jett is a short, sharp, and modern-sounding name that gives off strong and energetic vibes. It comes from the word “jet,” like a jet plane, which makes it feel fast, powerful, and adventurous. Some people also connect it to the deep black gemstone called jet, which adds a cool and bold meaning to the name. Jett is often seen as confident and edgy, and it’s become more popular in recent years, especially as parents choose unique names that stand out but are still easy to spell and say. It has a sleek, punchy sound that makes it memorable, and it works well in sports, music, or creative spaces because it feels dynamic and strong. Overall, Jett is a name that carries speed, confidence, and a modern sense of individuality.
  • Davion - Wet Lab
  • Preston - Dry Lab - I am good at CAD, CAM and machining parts, I can contribute designing things we might use and fabricating them. I have also some coding experience: I analyzed the Python code for the mathematical models.
  • Ethan - Human Practice - I believe that I fit the Social aspect of the RAISEC, because I enjoy communicating with new people, and also I feel that working with many individuals fits into my strengths.
  • Angie - ?
  • Jacqueline - Wet Lab - I am a freshmen who does basketball, volleyball, and dancing competitively. I’m into many subjects in school, with science being one that has always sparked my interest. As for my RIASEC, I’m more social and enterprising because I liked to connect with people so socialize. I’d like to think I’m pretty easy to talk to and I’m a pretty solid presenter (when I know what I’m talking about). I enjoy doing cloning in the lab.
  • Hector Chan - Wet Lab - I enjoy the lab work, especially PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, and purifying samples. I feel this experience helped me prepare for my AP Biology.
  • Candice - Wet Lab - My name is Candice Hsueh and I am a junior at Morrison Academy Taipei. I have many hobbies such as drawing or playing volleyball or hanging out with friends which I often do in my free time. Academically, I am also interested in biology among other interests. I officially took a biology course back in ninth grade but I have always had an interest in learning about how living things work, which motivated me to join Wetlab in this iGEM team. My RIASEC labels are Investigative (7) Social (6) Realistic (5.5) Artistic (5) Conventional (2) and Enterprising (2). I think that it’s because I like to do science and investigate and learn different things that’s why I rank higher in investigation. I don’t really know why my second highest is social but I guess I like to help people too. I think rather than Social I fit realistic and artistic better because I like to machines and things and other stuff like that. I think I fit artistic too because I like to do art and draw.
  • Oscar - Wet Lab - This student was recognized for extraordinary work in Wet Lab.
  • Bernice - Human Practice - My name is Bernice Wang, and I’m in my sophomore year. I enjoy travelling, hanging out with my friends, and hunting for food spots. I’m interested in finance and business, which is why I am on the human practices team in iGEM. In the RIASEC test, my main characteristic would be enterprising / conventional. I’d be interested in writing: review / editing, validation, or data curation for the value-added process.
  • Sophia - Wet Lab - This student was recognized for extraordinary work in Wet Lab.
  • Evelyn - Wet Lab
  • G10 Ethan - Human Practice Lead - My name is Ethan Chang, I’m a junior in high school. I’m interested in business and economics, which is why I joined the human practices team for IGEM. I enjoy playing sports like baseball and golf, and I also like travelling to different countries. Although I do not have any data of myself in RIASEC terms, frankly I know myself well so I don’t need it. I like playing the violin, baseball, golf, and I like business/economics. I am enterprising, somewhat conventional but I insist my own values, and I’m very realistic. I don't want to put my picture on the website. I just want to lead my team.
  • Lydia - Human Practice - My name is Lydia Chou. I am a sophomore at Taipei American School. One of my hobbies is reviewing restaurants on Google Maps. I enjoy the small details in an experience and thinking about what information would actually be useful to someone else. Over time I realized that what I enjoy most isn’t simply rating restaurants but communicating my observations. This is what drew me to Human Practices in iGEM. I want to explore the human side of our project, understand the perspectives of the people it may affect and use those perspectives to help shape our project’s direction.
  • Emily - Wet Lab - I’m Emily King, a sophomore at Taipei American School. I watch a lot of movies and shows (favorites include Moonlight, Bottoms, Bones and All, the Bear, etc), and like many different types of music (Noah Kahan, PTV, Deftones, Ethel Cain, Dominic Fike, beabadoobee, Slowdive, etc). Outside of iGEM, I partake in debate, girlscouts, and different community service projects with my friends. I am interested in biology which has drawn me to the Wetlab team in iGEM, but also philosophy/ethics and poli-sci.
  • Lucas - Wet Lab - I learned how to use a micropipette and motorized pipette, did plasmid preparation and gel electrophoresis, and used a spectrophotometer.
